How much wallpaper do I need?

How do I measure to make sure I purchase enough?

Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with a simple, fail-safe way to calculate how much peel and stick wallpaper you’ll need. Here are the basic steps.

  1. Pick your wall and product
  2. Measure your wall
  3. Make your calculations
  4. Rounding up and final calculations
  5. Order and install

Okay, now let’s break it down:

1 – Pick your wall and product

Select the wall (or walls) you’re planning on decorating. Pick your wallpaper, and make sure you know the coverage of one roll. Most of our peel and stick wallpapers cover 2,63m², however that varies from product to product. We’re going to use this cozy living room for our example, and we’re going to decorate it using our Aztec Peel and Stick Wallpaper which has a coverage of 2,63m².

2 – Measure your wall

To find the square meter area of your wall, you’ll need to measure the height and width of the wall. This accent wall is 2,44m tall and 2,74m wide.

3 – Make your calculations  Figuring out how much wallpaper you’ll need is quite simple. Just use this simple calculation: (Width x Height) ÷ Roll Coverage = Number of Rolls Now that we know the calculations, it’s as simple as plugging in your numbers. We know that the wall is 2,74m tall and 2,44m wide, and we know that one roll of our chosen wallpaper cover 2,63m², so the equation now reads: (2,44m x 2,74m) ÷ 2,63m² = 2,54 rolls

4 – Final Calculations and rounding up  As per our calculations in the previous step, we know that we need 2,54 rolls to cover this wall. However, you can’t just order a partial roll, so you’ll need to round up and order at least 3 rolls. Pro tip – If you are new to peel and stick wallpaper hanging, we would also recommend that you add an extra roll to your estimate to make sure you have enough to cover any beginner mistakes. (Don’t worry; we all make them!) It’s also good for pros to have that comfort of mind to order an extra roll. In this case, we would recommend ordering 4 rolls.

5 – Order and Install

Once you’ve calculated how many rolls of wallpaper you’ll need, place your order or purchase your product in store. When the product arrives, have fun installing! We have a step-by-step guide for installation plus video tutorials that you can use.

And voila! You have an entirely new space thanks to peel and stick wallpaper.

Quick side note on windows and doors.

You may have noticed that that we haven’t specifically addressed the issue of windows and doors. If you have a large doorway or window in your wall, simply calculate the square meter area of the window or door in question then subtract it from the wall area. Here’s what the equation would look like this:

(Wall Sq Mt – Window & Door Sq Mt) ÷ Roll Coverage = Number of Rolls

However, if you only have one or two, standard-sized windows or a single door in the wall you’re decorating, we would recommend calculating it the same way you would a blank wall. That way, you are sure to have enough wallpaper to complete the full space.

Simply peel away and then stick anywhere. The best part is, it is completely removable and reusable. Meant for any smooth, flat surface including walls, doors, entryways, cabinets, stairs, furniture, frames, mirrors and more, never has decorating your space been easier or more fun. Follow our step-by-step detailed hanging instructions below to get started. Gather The Recommended Tools When applying Peel & Stick Wallpaper, we recommend the following tools:

  • Sponge and gentle cleaner (to clean the wall)
  • Tape Measure
  • Level
  • Steel Ruler or Straight Edge
  • Razor Knife
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Plastic Smoother

Surface Preparation For best results, clean, dry and smooth all surfaces. Product will not adhere to unclean or textured surfaces. Allow newly painted surfaces to fully cure for a minimum of 4 weeks before applying Peel and Stick Wallpaper.

How to install Peel and Stick Wallpaper step by step

Step 1

Before you begin installing your peel and stick wallpaper, prepare your surface and clear the work area. Make sure electrical outlets are off and remove wall fixtures. For best results, clean and properly prepare all wall surfaces with a sponge and all purpose cleaner. Old wallcoverings and paste residue should be removed.

Step 2

Beginning on the left side of your wall, measure out from the corner the width of the paper (52,07cm) and mark the wall lightly with a pencil. Put your level on this mark and draw a straight, level, vertical line. This is the guide for your first strip, it is very important for it to be level. Remember to allow extra 2-3cm for trimming both the top and bottom.

Step 3

Pre-cut strips to fit wall height. Make sure to align any design from strip to strip when cutting. Number the back of each strip as you go to keep your design in the correct order (only if pattern requires it). Cut and trim product with a sharp razor knife changing the blade often to help maintain a smooth clean cut.

Step 4

Peel about 30cm of the backing away from the paper. Apply the paper to the top of the wall, allowing a bit of excess to overlap the ceiling which will be trimmed off later. Align the right side of the strip to your mark and lightly press the edge to the wall along the mark. You can reposition if needed to ensure a vertical seam.

Step 5

Working from top to bottom, pull the backing away as you evenly press the paper to the wall. Do not force, let gravity assist you. Be careful not to pull or stretch the material or the pattern will not align. For best results , have one person guide the paper at the top and along the seam, while another holds the opposite edge away from the wall until the seams are lined up.

Step 6

Using a plastic smoother, work your way down the strip in a back and forth motion, smoothing the material to the wall and pushing out any air bubbles. Trim off excess material at ceiling and baseboard with a straight edge and sharp razor knife.

Step 7

Repeat procedure aligning your next strip to the right edge of your previous strip.
